Shopping for Spouses

I’ve always disliked the phrase “soul mates” and the notion of “finding the right one”. No one is inherently the right one for me. And worse yet, I am not the solution to anyone else’s problems. We are all hopelessly broken creatures. Marriage is not a destination, it is a point of beginning. But today we see courtship as the process of seeking a person who will affirm me and make me happy.

The bottom line is that we have ultimately brought consumerism into marriage. How hopelessly shallow.
